Making robotics education accessible to everyone.

Osaka, Japan – It’s been a wonderful experience for the Nexus Team with the support of ISMS Robotics to compete in the 8th Universal Robotics Challenge on September 22, 2024.

Nexus, the Living Stone International School (LSIS) robotics team of Angeles City, competed on the global stage with passion, dedication, grit, and determination to represent the country.

Competing in the URC 2024 brought thrill and excitement for the future. Lance Collins Feliciano (10) was the team’s lead programmer. He wowed the judges with his programming skills complemented by the mathematical savvy of Jian Rain Solis (10), the brilliant strategies of Ginia Kenzi Laquian (10), and the engineering and programming acumen of Mateo Sebastian Dulatre (11).

At their age, these young talents built and programmed their robot independently with their equally energetic robotics coach Michael John Cunanan, the ICT head and robotics director of LSIS, guiding them along the way.

Nexus finished 9th overall among 16 competing teams for the regular division.

The team might not have landed on the podium, but they showed the world what they are made of – humility, grace, and brilliance. They fought till the end.

Had it not for some technicalities in the interpretation of the rules, the team would have had the chance for the medal.

But it was a good start for LSIS Nexus Robotics Club after a three-year hiatus from international competitions. Now that the beast has awakened, it hungers to win and reclaim its prestige in the Philippine robotics landscape.

The annual event showcased the best teams of international students in robotics and technology from different countries, including Armenia, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand.
