We had the privilege of conducting training on teaching advanced robotics with the teachers of Holy Child College of Davao from October 9 to 11, 2024.
The Holy Child College of Davao recently launched its school robotics program intending to adopt it in its curriculum.
Teacher Gay Banguis, the curriculum team head was one of the participants. She said, “We lobbied hard to have this robotics program approved by the school administration.”
The program started with a 15-day boot camp in June this year. And Teacher Gay wants to keep it going. “We will work hard to make it succeed,” she said. “So, I want our teachers to be equipped.”
There were three training sessions – one session each day for three days.
In the first session, Michael John Cunanan, a robotics teacher and coach from Living Stone International School in Angeles City, shared his experiences and insights about teaching technology in the classroom and the competitions he participated.
With Cunanan, who teaches in an international school, joining us is a testament to our commitment to collaboration. ISMS partners and collaborates with schools to make robotics education accessible to all.
The director of ISMS Robotics, Kelvene Requiroso, facilitated training sessions 2 and 3. He discussed building behavior-based robots, artificial intelligence, and some foundational principles of designing and coding a robot.

These topics are crucial in understanding how robots work, providing more details that teachers can use in their classrooms.
Session 2 was one and a half hours long with a focus on the details of designing and programming a robot that mimics the behavior of humans and animals.
The last session narrowed in on the curriculum on advanced Python programming.
It’s the second scheduled training, as the school started yesterday, October 14, the robotics classes across its three campuses – Kalayaan Campus in Davao City’s Jacinto St., Trinity Campus in Buhangin, and Green Meadows Campus in Mintal.

All Holy Child College of Davao students from Grade 4 to Grade 10 are welcome to enroll.
